Montreal Protocol
The Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer is an international treaty designed aimed at protecting the ozone layer, by phasing out the production of a number of greenhouse gases that are responsible for ozone depletion.
The Kyoto Protocol deals only with those greenhouse gases that are not covered by the Montreal Protocol, namely:
- Carbon dioxide (CO2)
- Methane (CH4)
- Nitrous oxide (N20)
- Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
- Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
- Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
